Introduction
SCA Barista Skills Foundation provides you with a first taste of the Barista discipline and is a great way to get insight into the skills required of a barista including espresso preparation, steaming and texturing milk for cappuccinos, and maintaining a clean
bar. No prior knowledge is needed before taking this module.
Course Overview
The E-learning module of “What is Specialty Coffee” is provided to all students that sign up for our SCA Foundation Courses to teach the basic coffee concepts. All students are required to attend as it provides basis to the SCA framework.
Certification
You will be eligible for the SCA Foundation Certificate once you complete the course and obtain a passing mark for the theory exam (online).
Note: Theory re-exam/re-enrolment fee is S$40.00 (upon 2 failed attempts)
Students may also opt out of the exam if they choose to. There will be no SCA certification given in this case, but a certificate of completion from Bettr Barista.
Prerequisites
We require a minimum number of 4 learners to run each class. If the number of sign-ups does not meet this requirement, learners will be notified and have their class rescheduled to the next available date.

Outline
What you will learn:
- Coffee journey from seed to cup
- Differences between Robusta and Arabica coffee
- Introduction of specialty coffee and trends
- Gain insight into the Bettr Barista coffee education system
In the theory and in-person practical, you will learn:

- Grinder Adjustment
- Milk Steaming Techniques
- Hands on Practice
- Cleaning and Maintenance

E-learning (45 mins) - What is Specialty Coffee? (You will only need to complete this once, if you are signed up for multiple SCA Foundation classes)

Virtual Classroom (3 hours)- The theory components of the module you have signed up for will be taught by an instructor in a Virtual Classroom, on the date that you have signed up for.

Practical (6.5 hours) - Followed by a practical component of the class at our Academy. Please choose the your practical date from the options above and indicate your choice at checkout.
