The workshop aims to instill and ignite the passion for a cappella and vocal singing in students of all ages, empowering singers through positive feedback and a high skill level of training and exposing singers / students to the range of a cappella and vocal topics in performing a cappella. The students will work with industry experts, founders and professionals and are exposed to multiple forms of performance apart from just harmony and vocal singing techniques and experience. The students get the opportunity to work on their solo singing as well and will put a little set of songs together for presentation.An outing to watch a cappella groups In action or an exchange programme with TAS Youth Voices can be organized.


Students can expect experienced and energetic trainers which much passion and knowledge on motivating young singers. They will work hard on putting the music together and to enjoy the fruits of their work at the end of the workshop. Additionally, they have the opportunity to meet other young singers like themselves, have a keepsake to remember the course by and to try out for the best youth a cappella team in Singapore.

OUTCOME

  • Students will learn in a positive environment with specialist teachers
  • Students will learn more about singing and then solfege, ear training - all round musicianship
  • Learn through score reading as well as numerals score
  • A school presentation can be organised (acoustic performance) (mic-ed up performance will depend on students’ abilities at the start of the training. Otherwise more sessions will be needed for the introduction of audio equipment)
  • A recording of their songs
  • An exchange programme with TAS Youth Voices
  • A concert outing if school permits
  • An enjoyable experience for each and every singer

  • Length of programme: 8-12 sessions, 60-90 mins/session
  • Technical requirements: Piano or Keyboard, Sound system with microphones
  • Cost: S$ 130/hour

PROGRAMME CONTENT


Week 1

Introduction to vocal music and a cappella music through performance / videos and CDs, Accessing the voices, introduction to singing technique, highlights of a cappella performance

Week 2

Setting up a weekly and daily routine for voice warm up and care, continuation with singing technique, introduction to listening exercises catered for harmony singers, introduction to rounds and canons and a simple song

Week 3

Building on vocal technique as the foundation for the training, to intro solo singing with exercises for all singers, revision of a cappella song

Week 4

Putting a more difficult arrangement together, basic introduction to vocal percussion

Week 5

Rehearsing the arrangement, start of blocking for choreography

Week 6

Rehearsing the arrangement, focus on stabilizing pitching issues (If the team is ready, an introduction to sound equipment is possible)

Week 7

Either to continue rehearsing the songs and fixing strategic choreographed moves or working on singing on microphones and balancing through feedback monitors

Week 8

Final rehearsal and then and an exchange programme with TAS Youth Voices can be arranged (Sats during school period and any day during school vacation).  At an extra cost, arrangements can be made to attend any upcoming a cappella concerts. A video or audio recording can also be done for profiling and keepsake. Potential students will be invited to join the TAS Youth Voices.
