Stories in a Bag is a creative literacy activity, encouraging speaking, listening, movements, some role-play, and using the imagination. Teachers and their children will make up a new story together with the use of different story bags.

This training looks at how teachers can encourage stories where children are using core creative literacy elements including: speaking, listening, drama, role-play, chanting, and new ideas.

The Pedagogy

The training addresses the areas where children will gain in understanding, including:

  • core creative literacy elements including: speaking, listening, drama, role-play, chanting, and new ideas.

  • that stories have a beginning, middle and end.

  • that stories consist of characters, settings and a plot.

  • that by contributing to the story, children will feel that their ideas are valid which will help them grow in confidence.

  • that if used regularly, children will become more and more fluent in coming up with new ideas.

  • feeling ownership over the story, as they have created it themselves, helping them grow in confidence and feel listened to.
