Pre-school children are highly capable and curious when it comes to mixing art with technology. Providing they have the fine motor skills, they can enjoy simple activities which include motors, coin batteries, copper tape and LEDs, using them in creative ways. This training looks at a highly successful and accessible interdisciplinary activity which can be done with pre-school aged children and which uses motors and coin batteries.

The Pedagogy

  • The children will learn a simple way of making a connection.

  • The children will understand that you can combine art with technology to create an exciting activity: the interdisciplinary approach.

  • The training emphasizes the importance for children to be allowed to do it themselves. This includes setting up the activity (if aged 5-7) and operating the activity (aged 2-7). As well as understanding the process more fully, this will help them feel ownership and confidence about what they are creating.

  • The training also emphasizes the importance of allowing time and space to continue to experiment with the activity. This may help children to develop more ideas about what they can do with the activity (and to come up with ideas for other activities as a result).
