Details

Agile is an iterative approach to software development and project management with articulated principles, values, methods, roles, processes and tools (check out the Agile Manifesto for the initial incarnation). By chunking down work, utilizing self-organizing teams and soliciting more rapid feedback, development and resulting outcomes are improved. The Agile Manifesto was written in 2001 by a group of software designers aiming to “uncover better ways of developing products, services and results.”

Agile methods can be put into practice quite quickly, so long as the team is adequately prepared and has effectively engaged the users who will be involved.

Agility takes time in many cases years to grow and nurture as part of the fabric of the organizational DNA and culture. Direct support to leading organizations working to build agility by bringing a team together to define a future state, assess the current state and design a plan to navigate the transition state.

OBJECTIVE

This workshop provides an overview of agile for all team members to provide a baseline understanding. Participants learn the essential concepts and tools of agile, differences between agile processes and traditional "waterfall" methodologies, and how to work in an agile team and as part of an agile enterprise.

The workshop will include exercises, facilitated discussions, case studies, examples and more, throughout, to illustrate the principles being taught in a comprehensive fashion interactively tailored to the organization’s needs. The goal is to add clarity and raise the level of conversation occurring between and among change practitioners.

ORGANIZATIONAL BENEFITS

Becoming Agile as an organization initiates a change within the organizational culture. It requires embracing a different set of value and principles, and thereby establishing a mindset strongly based on collaboration and focused on delivering customer value.

The velocity of change is continuing to increase, as organizations experience bigger, faster, more complex and more cross-functional change. At the same time, the demand to deliver expected results and outcomes continues to increase as well based on pressure by leadership, competitors, customers and the market.

Both organizational agility and agile development aim to equip organizations to more effectively respond to and seize opportunity. But they are different. agile development is a method of approaching a particular initiative that originated in software development but has extended into other types of change. organizational agility is a trait marked by the ability to change more effectively and less painfully. By understanding the difference, practitioners can increase clarity and alignment around these pressing topics.

INDIVIDUAL BENEFITS

Agile provides a set of principles that produce high-quality software in short increments by adapting to changing requirements with continuous delivery. Based on the Agile Manifesto, it was step up from the Waterfall model. The Agile Manifesto states:
  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
  • Responding to change over following a plan
  • The following are the traits involved in becoming Agile:
For Individuals:
  • It encourages being adaptive and responsive to change.
  • It promotes increased collaboration and interaction among individuals.
  • Shorter planning of iteration results in creating tangible value.
  • Developing software faster in increments to get feedback in the shortest amount of time.
  • Agile has “sprints” to focus on agile delivery of customer-valued artifacts.
  • Aligns each person’s job to the customer value.
  • Sets the role and responsibilities of the people for the work they need to do and sets the boundary for the work done.
  • Agile is not a methodology rather an umbrella of values and principles.
  • SCRUM KANBAN or XP are the ways of becoming Agile.

Outline

ACHIEVE SUCCESS VIA AGILE METHODS

By attending this workshop, you will understand what agile is and how you should work to boost effectiveness of the teams you are on while ensuring that work at the team level aligns with enterprise vision, mission and goals.

Agile development methods remove barriers between your customers and the development team. Using agile, your organization will more easily meet market and customer needs while attaining its ROI objectives for your project. Achieving success with agile will position your organization for success but it requires a higher level of collaboration and business focus than many are used to.

If your enterprise is moving to agile, or growing the use of agile, this session is appropriate for delivery across your organization. Multiple sessions can be offered in a short time frame, allowing individuals across lines of business to gain a common consensus, vision and understanding of agile.

COURSE LENGTH

This is a one-day online course.

Foundation Course (2 Days course) & Fundamental Course (3 Days course) are available, contact us for more information.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Agile is practiced by teams addressing specific issues or opportunities with a chartered initiative. It leverages self-organizing teams and roles like the scrum master, the product owner, technical experts, and end users. While Agile started in software development, it is increasingly being applied to non-IT changes.

Agility is demonstrated by each and every member of an organization as they “lean in” to change and demonstrate flexibility, durability and resilience. Various roles have unique responsibilities in an agile organization, but everyone plays a part. The effort to “grow our organizational agility” is often sponsored and spearheaded by senior executives working to make a strategic investment in the future of the organization.
