The Basic (Elementary) First Aid Course for Seafarers enables seafarers to apply immediate basic first aid in event of an accident or illness on board ship.
The level of knowledge of the subject shall be sufficient to enable the designated
seafarer to take immediate effective action described in the subject list in the table AVI/1-3 of the International Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW).
Successful trainees will receive an Elementary First Aid On Board Ship certification accredited by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore with a 5 years validity period.

Outline
- Assessment of needs of casualties and threats to own safety.
- Appreciation of body structure and functions.
- Understanding of immediate measures to be taken in cases of emergencies.
- Including the ability to position casualty.
- Including the ability to apply resuscitation techniques.
- Including the ability to control bleeding.
- Including the ability to apply appropriate measures of basic shock management.
- Including the ability to apply appropriate measures in event of burns and scalds,
- including accidents caused by electrical current.
- Including the ability to rescue and transport a casualty.
- Improvise bandages and use materials in the emergency kit.
