This 2 days BowTie and risk management workshop aims at the integration of two crucial elements of the Risk-MS at the level of line and assets managers.

• Risk Management using the BowTie methodology for significant risk and HSE Cases (How to create operationally relevant HSE cases using the Bowtie Methodology

Understanding of these elements provides the participants with a thorough understanding of the risk management frame work and (HSE) risk management via the BowTie technique as well as their own role in improving the performance of their unit. At the end of the workshop participants will have a thorough understanding of the two building blocks of the Risk-MS and how to make the risk management life through a series of exercises.

Workshop Activities

There will be some BowTie practical exercises and sharing of case study at this course.

A solidly implemented management system is the foundation for good business performance. The Risk Identification and Management module and the Continuous Improvement Loop are at the heart of the management system. Learning from failures plays an important part in that improvement loop. However, incident analysis, generating actions that go beyond the immediate causes and address systemic issues, is not easy. Incident analysis requires a basic knowledge of how the tools are applied as well as a special way of thinking. Moreover, it requires a basic understanding of human behaviour. The Tripod Beta tool aims to go deeper into the systems, beyond the immediate causes, deep into the reasons for the human behaviour and the real underlying causes that are at management system level. It has been developed to create a “step-change” in learning from incidents. Tripod Beta is not limited to HSE incidents. It is focusing on “business process improvements.” This course contains all elements required to meet the Tripod Beta Practitioner accreditation criteria according to the Stichting Tripod Foundation. At the end of the course participants have the option to participate in the formal exam which is the first step of the formal accreditation process.

Workshop Activities

Next to information transfer via presentations there are many exercises and syndicate work on real cases. Especially the last day, the focus will be on working on cases. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own case study & the trainer will deal with a selection of them so that you can take back a real solution for your organization.

Certification & Examination

At the end of the course participants have the option to participate in the formal exam (Multiple choice questions) which is the first step of the formal accreditation process. Upon passing the exam, participants will be issued an accredited certificate on the same day.

Janssen is an accredited assessor, trainer and practitioner for Tripod Beta, experienced trainer and consultant for BowTie Risk Analysis & Hearts and Minds program.

He is also an appointed assessor on behalf of the Stichting Tripod Foundation and an active member of the Tripod Beta Incident Investigation Flying Squad team.

He is a Preferred H&M consultant and trainer recognized by the Energy Institute & Specialized in Risk Management Systems, Bowtie and BowtieXP. Ed Janssen studied chemical technology, inorganic materials at the Technical University Twente in the Netherlands and has over 25 years working experience with Shell.
