SkillsFuture Course - IoT Training with ESP8266 Wi-Fi Controller

Internet of Things (IoT) is an ecosystem of things (devices with embedded electronics), network connectivity, data storage, people and processes. The things collect, communicate with each other and process data to respond to changing environment or take intelligent actions in order to automate or enhance existing processes and thus benefit people in day-to-day life.  The IoT has gained popularity lately due to the following reasons:

1. Miniaturization and cheaper electronics,
2. Increased data storage and computational capacity (Cloud),
3. Ubiquitous Wireless connectivity and
4. Open source and DIY ecosystem

In this course, we will be using ESP8266 based development board to learn and make interactive IoT devices. The ESP8266 is a cost-effective, and very capable WiFi-enabled microcontroller. Like any microcontroller, it can be programmed to blink LEDs, trigger relays, monitor sensors, or automate coffee makers, and with an integrated WiFi controller, the ESP8266 is a one-stop shop for almost any Internet-connected project.
During this course, the participant will learn the basics of electronics, different types of development boards, interfacing with sensors, wireless networks, accessing the cloud platform, remote monitoring, triggering actions remotely based on logical conditions, and also basic data processing and visualization. The hands-on nature of the course will allow the participant to be a maker and learn things by tinkering with hardware. At the end of this course, the participant will have gained basic knowledge on different elements of IoT space and will be able to develop a basic IoT device quickly and independently to apply in real-life use cases.

In this course participants will be taught how to create an IoT Device and an IoT Mobile App. Arduino Software (IDE) will be used to program the devices. Therefore, participants are required to bring their own laptops and smartphones.
