Interior Design For Home Owners

The course is designed for homeowners, property owners, and individuals who want to pursue their interests in interior design, and for the general public to understand the aspects and language of interior design. The course will also be able to equip one with the necessary skills to put into paper their design ideas while being able to communicate and manage their contractors effectively.

The course will be divided into three parts to effectively fast-track participants into the design and technical aspects of interior design:

Part 1: Understanding the language and aspects of design

Participants will be introduced to various aspects of design: visual language of design, interior scale & proportion, the use of colors, and various styles of interiors. At the end of this part of the course, participants will be able to understand how the various aspects of design are translated into layout plans, detailed drawings, and perspectives. Participants will effectively be able to read and understand a designer’s drawings and plans.

Part 2: Conveying your design intention

In Part 2, participants will be introduced to the basic tools of creating their own layout plans and mood boards, taking the first step to being your designer for your property. Whether you are creating your design or specifying the design ideals to your designer, participants will learn how to communicate the ideas effectively, this will ensure that the ideas are conveyed accurately and avoid miscommunication.

Part 3: Managing the construction process

Participants will be introduced to the technical aspects of materials selections and specifications, types of interior furnishings, and aspects of lighting and air-conditioning in an easy-to-understand way. This will ensure that participants know what is being built and supplied to the construction project. Participants will also learn what quality of workmanship is acceptable and what is not and lastly, be introduced to the process and timeline of construction to effectively co-manage the construction process.

Aim of the Course

This course will help participants to be well-informed and knowledgeable home /property owners, who will not only be able to achieve the desired outcomes for their properties, it will also save time, money, and hassle, and avoid miscommunication in a construction project.

Participants who have completed this program will be able to:

• For Homeowners/property owners – be an informed client; know your designers’ language and be able to specify your design intentions to achieve your dream home/property, and also ensure you get what you are paying for. Homeowners can also be your interior designers, eliminating the hassle of making your designer understand your mind and create your designs instead.

• For individuals who have an interest in interior design and looking for a career switch – the course serves as an introductory course to the professional world of Interior design.  Participants will be able to understand the design and technical aspects of interior design and have first-hand experience with interior design, and in the process evaluate the possibilities and skills needed to pursue the new career.
