Shakespeare 101 is an experiential workshop that allows participants to move beyond the text and explore the performative side of Shakespeare. Students will acquire the necessary skills needed to read Shakespeare critically, perform compellingly, as well as develop a sensitivity to classical works.
Syllabus:
- How to read and understand Shakespearean texts
- How to use analytical tools on Shakespearean texts to find meaning intellectually and emotionally
- How to connect images from your inner emotional life to Shakespeare’s works
- What are some techniques actors use to memorise lines
- What is the technique of ‘actioning’and how we do use it
Learning outcomes:
- Apply classical works to contemporary contexts
- Understand and appreciate Shakespearean language
- Understand the Elizabethan stage and Shakespearean stage directions
- Inhabit the motives and intentions of Shakespeare’s characters
- Develop confidence and text analysis skills
Founded by Kamil Haque in 2013, the Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity (HCAC) is an acting school. HCAC is one of the companies under Method Metropolis, an umbrella group focusing on arts, entertainment, and education.
HCAC, is the home of Method Acting in Asia. It is the first professional acting school in English in Singapore.
